Woodland Sauna and Cold Plunge Retreat
Leave the chaos, return to nature and reset with heat, cold and stillness.
Visit our Roby Mill sauna site, just five miles from Wigan, tucked into the rural landscape on the edge of West Lancashire.
Siidde is a traditional wood-fired sauna and cold plunge experience set beside a small lake in a peaceful rural location in the North West of England. Whether you're looking to de-stress, sleep better, boost recovery, or simply step away from the noise of everyday life, our sauna and ice bath sessions offer something that's becoming increasingly rare: genuine stillness.

The experience
Heat, cold, rest — as many times as you like
You can cycle through the experience as many times as you want during your session.
01Sauna Session
Step into the heat and let your mind and muscles unwind in our authentic wood fired sauna. Notice the stress evaporate, fascia loosen and the mind let go.
02Cold Plunge
Plunge into the cold, be pulled into the present moment, feel your body respond, experience the endorphins and reset your nervous system. Cold immersion after a sauna session creates Contrast Therapy, that leaves you feeling physically energised and mentally refreshed.
03Reset
Relax around the open fire, taking in the natural ambience of the surroundings, while you enjoy the after-effect of the whole spa experience. Ready to go again? You can cycle through the experience as many times as you want during your session.
Where you will be

Contrast therapy
Why Contrast Therapy?
Our sessions combine the ancient practice of contrast therapy, alternating between the deep warmth of a traditional wood-fired sauna and the sharp clarity of an ice bath, with the restorative power of being in nature.
There's no pressure to use both, you can come for the heat of the sauna alone or for the benefits of the ice bath.
After your session, settle in beside the campfire and look out over the lake. No schedule, no screen, no rush. Just the kind of quiet that stays with you long after you leave.
Regular sauna and cold plunge sessions have been shown to:
- Reduce stress and lower cortisol — helping your nervous system genuinely recover, not just distract itself
- Improve sleep quality — the post-sauna temperature drop mirrors the body's natural sleep onset process
- Boost mood and mental clarity — cold immersion triggers a significant release of dopamine and norepinephrine
- Support immune function and reduce inflammation — both heat and cold have measurable anti-inflammatory effects
- Build resilience — regular contrast therapy strengthens the nervous system's ability to regulate under pressure
Before you come
What actually happens in a session?
You alternate between the wood-fired sauna and the cold plunge, resting by the open fire in between. That cycle — hot, cold, rest — is contrast therapy.
You can go round as many times as you like within your session. There is no correct number.
Do I have to get in the cold water?
No. There's no pressure to use both — you can come for the heat of the sauna alone, or for the benefits of the ice bath.
What should I bring?
Swimwear, a towel, and something warm to put on afterwards. You will spend time outside between rounds, by the fire and the lake.
Where are you?
Whitley Road, Roby Mill, Skelmersdale, West Lancashire. WN8 0QT
Our Roby Mill site is about five miles from Wigan, tucked into the rural landscape on the edge of West Lancashire.
It is my first time — is that a problem?
Not at all. Start on a lower bench, keep the first cold dip short, and rest as long as you need between rounds. Your body tells you the pace.
